Christmas Eve is one of the busiest travel days of the year. A portable battery charger is really handy for keeping gadgets charged up to make sure passengers are occupied. Here is a list of some holiday trip essentials to keep everything running smoothly.
Emergency supplies for your road trip
Nobody has ever said, “I wish I would’ve prepared a little less for that.” Here is a short list of winter traveling essentials:
- Jumper cables
- Ice scraper and/or de-cer spray (you can make your own with 1 part water to 2 parts rubbing alcohol)
- Bag of sand or kitty litter (for tire traction in the snow)
- Warm accessories such as gloves, stockings, caps and blankets
Compress and lighten the load
When packing for the trip, try to roll basic clothing instead of folding it. The amount space you can save by rolling is borderline crazy. You can maximize suitcase capacity by placing heavy clothing in the corners, rolled clothing on the bottom, and dress attire placed neatly on top.
If you plan on driving, you can make extra room in the vehicle by mailing gifts before the trip. This will also help you avoid extra fees if you plan to bring gifts when flying.
Food and snacks
You can save money and reduce stops by packing your own meals for the drive. Multiple fast food stops can be expensive and healthy options are limited. You can pack the family sandwiches for a healthy and affordable meal on the go.
No trip is complete without plenty of snacks for the drive. Try to avoid salty snacks such as mixed nuts, potato chips and cheese. The large amounts of salt make you thirsty, and the more water consumed, the more frequent the stops.
