Toyota Helps Bring Innovation During World Soccer Festivities

When two innovative companies come together, you would expect a result that’s well, innovative. And that’s exactly what’s happening as Toyota teams up with social invention company Uncharted Play (UP) to introduce UP’s Think Out of Bounds curriculum. According to the organization, they will use the curriculum and their energy-generating products to challenge traditional approaches to global issues while empowering youth to invent the world they want.

Uncharted Play Think Out of Bounds CurriculumThe core of the curriculum will be UP’s best known invention, the Soccket—a soccer ball that harnesses kinetic energy from play for practical, everyday use. The curriculum will first be introduced in New York City and will then spend four weeks in Brazil working with children living in local favelas.

UP Co-Founder and CEO, Jessica O. Matthews, says the curriculum will provide children in New York and Brazil with an off-grid energy option, the tools for creating real inventions in their own communities, and most importantly the ability to do all of this while playing.

Toyota will function as a case study within the curriculum, which will address the innovative ways in which Toyota develops products that address specific consumer needs.

UP’s best known invention: the Soccket!“At Toyota, we believe strongly in innovation, and how it has the incredible ability to impact our daily lives,” said Dionne Colvin Lovely, national manager of traditional and emerging media at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. “The work that Uncharted Play is undertaking in Brazil is a shining example of how an innovative company can greatly affect others, and we are pleased to be collaborating with them on their latest mission.”

Match Made in Toyota-land

The neat online shopping tool from Toyota, called Find Your Match, helps car shoppers find the perfect Toyota to suit their lifestyle. From work commutes to road-tripping to Grandma’s house, the tool will match you to the three best models for your needs. See the process below and then get to matching!

1)      First, pick where you’re headed. Will you use your Toyota for work, road trips or just casual driving?

2)      Then, pick how you plan to use your vehicle and what is most important to you. Are you just driving to work? Do you have a large family or a small family? Do you like to save on gas or do you like extra storage space?

Toyota Takes on Safe Driving with TeenDrive365

Teen DrivingIn recent years, many programs have emphasized the disastrous effects of using technology while driving. But there are also many non-technology related distractions that are just as dangerous for drivers, such as eating and drinking while driving or putting on makeup while driving to work. These kinds of distractions are dangerous for all drivers, young and old alike. And that’s why Toyota launched the TeenDrive365 program late last year which speaks to the driving habits of both parents and teens.

The program focuses on increasing safety for drivers by decreasing driving distractions and showing drivers how often they engage in bad driving habits. Toyota also hopes to give parents the tools to talk to their teens about safe driving by involving them in the teen’s first year of driving and challenging parents to model safe driving practices. The campaign website, www.Teendrive365.com, includes driving tips and facts, a parent/teen safety challenge quiz, videos, and a mutual driving agreement for parents and teens to sign together. Check out some of the distracted driving facts that Toyota highlights. They just might surprise you.

Distracted Driving Facts

TeenDrive365Fact #1: Teens read or send text messages 26 times more often than their parents think.

Fact #2: Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for U.S. teens.

Fact #3: If a teen thinks their parent eats/drinks while driving, they are 3 times more likely to do it as well.

Fact #4: Parents use a hand-held cell phone more often than teens while driving.

Fact #5: A quarter of teens respond to a text message once or more every time they drive.

At Brent Brown Toyota, we place safety as a top priority and are proud of the TeenDrive365 program and Toyota’s commitment to helping increase driver safety. Make sure you do not miss any of the events or specials going on at Brent Brown Toyota! FOLLOW US on Twitter and LIKE US on Facebook!
